I remember seeing a Bomb Pop design on Picture This Clothing’s social media a while ago. It looked so cool!
I never would have thought to make a popsicle into a dress. I would be far too focused on eating the delicious treat, haha!
But it is such a good idea!
This was an amazing lesson on finding inspiration in unlikely places. Everything can be turned into something fun and creative! I need to be more open to seeing ideas in everyday objects around me!
I wanted to recreate this dress for a few reasons:
I *clearly* need to do some research by eating a Bomb Pop.
It just looks cool! I want a dress that matches a delicious treat!
I truly think the exercise of replicating the design of this popsicle will help me to find inspiration more easily in future things.
I immediately tried to decide what medium I wanted to use in this design. I debated between crayons, colored pencils, and paint. I decided to use paint.
Honestly, I don’t have any logic in this decision other than it sounds like the most fun!
I grabbed a few supplies:
A dress template (get some here!)
Blue and red paint
Paintbrush
Paper plate (to hold the paint)
Cup (to rinse the brush off easier)
Some old newspaper we have for this exact reason (to lay on over the table and protect it from splatters)
And then I started painting!
I decided to make it a little bit messy around the edges; I just thought it would make the final print turn out better.
I let it dry and took a picture.
The paper looks a little bit warped where I painted, so I am excited to see if that impacts the finished design.
When I tell you I was pumped to see this dress arrive–It was just… exciting!
I think my favorite thing about wearing this dress is how iconic it looks next to a Bomb Pop.
For reals. It’s just cool! Right?!
I was kind of concerned about the warping of the template paper and how that might impact the finished design. I don’t really think it impacted it. At least, I don’t see anything changed (which is cool).
If you look closely at the part where the red ends and the white starts, you’ll see a little bit of random red paint spots. I noticed that when I first designed this dress. And, to be honest, I didn’t think it would really show up when printed. But, it totally did.
I don’t how much these things get scaled up (1000%?) from paper to life-sized dress, but it’s interesting to see! That could be important to think about depending on the design. I think it works great here!
Can we just stop and appreciate the accuracy in detail the finished piece has to the original paper? It is AMAZING that something so small was noticed and recreated in the process. I truly am amazed and excited by that!
In my opinion, this is the ultimate Summer design.
It is bright and fun and has all of the colors that I connect with July. PLUS. The dress itself is crazy lightweight and comfortable, which helps in the extreme heat of Summer.
This was a cool lesson for me to learn! Hopefully, in the future, I am able to find more inspiration in everyday objects!
